Obama is not receiving the fond farewell that he hoped as he nears the end of his Presidency and he’s now learning that his actions have consequences.
Some members at the Woodmont Country Club are working to keep the president out of the predominantly Jewish enclave because of his anti-Israel foreign policy.
Woodmont members didn’t care to discuss the matter publicly, but if emails are any indication of how they feel, it would seem that Obama would have better luck finding another golf course to spend his free time.
A few of those emails were made available to The Washington Post, and they revealed how Obama wasn’t welcome because of his approach to Israel.
“He has created a situation in the world where Israel’s very existence is weakened and possibly threatened,” club member Faith Goldstein wrote on Dec. 26. “He is not welcome at Woodmont. His admittance would create a storm that could destroy our club.”
Another source told the New York Post, “In light of the votes at the U.N. and the (Secretary of State John) Kerry speech and everything else, there’s this major uproar with having him part of the club, and a significant portion of the club has opposed offering him membership.”
That source was referring to an anti-Israel vote by the U.N. Security Council that the Obama administration refused to veto and a speech later by Kerry explaining the administration’s position regarding Israeli settlements.
It must pain Obama to know that he isn’t welcome, but it’s not like he shouldn’t be surprised after all he’s done to Israel.
A source told the New York Post that originally, Obama’s membership was supposed to be “a back-door thing” to give him membership free of charge.
“But now, with the U.N. thing, they are not in position or likely to do it,” he said, adding that the club was looking at threats of potential lawsuits for bending the rules to let Obama join.
It looks like Obama, always one to bend the rules, might be in for some rude awakenings as he settles back to private life.
It wasn’t known if Obama had even sought membership at Woodmont, but Fox News reported that speculation as early as last year indicated that he would seek membership there as he remains in the D.C. area to allow his daughter Sasha to complete high school.
The White House did not comment on the matter.
