Matt Harrigan was a superstar with a blessed life. He founded a cyber security company called PacketSled, and was making $5,000,000 a year. He had a wonderful house and a wonderful family. He had it all.
Mr. Harrigan, a proud liberal, thought it would be funny to post some nasty things about Donald Trump as it became clear that Hillary was about to lose the election.
After he posted those comments, the Board of Directors of his own company informed the Secret Service, who then immediately paid Mr. Harrigan a visit.
Threatening the president or a president-elect is a felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871. Anyone who knowingly makes a threat against the president will be fined, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.
Within a week, Mr. Harrigan had no job, was being threatened with legal trouble from the Secret Service, had to delete all his social media accounts including Facebook and Twitter.
Today, he is not even living in his own house. He and his family are living in an undisclosed location until the tsunami of death threats subsides.
